Tosia Altman was born in Wloclaweck. A refugee in the Soviet Zone, she returned to Warsaw where she was among the leaders of the Hashomer Hatzair Youth movement. Sent to the “Aryan” part of the city by the JFO, she was their liaison officer. During the Uprising, she took part in the fighting inside the Ghetto and succeeded in phoning information every night to Franya Batus- Zuckerman's contact. She managed to get out of the Ghetto via the sewers. She hid Zivia Lubetkin and Yitzhak Zuckerman in her apartment. After that, she found refuge along with other Resistance fighters in a celluloid factory located in the center of Warsaw. A fire broke out. Tosia Altman was captured by the Germans and tortured to death. She was 25.
